DougieMac's Stoke 10K

We are excited to announce that this year's DougieMac will be taking over the organisation of the Stoke 10K from previous organisers 'In The Running'

The 2017 event will take place on Sunday 10th September in Hanley Park.

All proceeds from the Stoke 10K will support the Douglas Macmillan Hospice. The DougieMac provides free end of life care to people in North Staffordshire facing a life limiting illness, and we are encouraging all of our runners to fundraise for the hospice. We know raising money can be be tough but we appreciate every single £1 raised. This year we're hoping the Stoke 10K event can raise around £30,000 which would be enough to run the entire hospice for one whole day....a day like Sunday 10th September!

The great thing about the Stoke 10K is that it is suitable for runners of all levels of ability. The 10K distance is by far the most popular race distance in the UK and is achievable for all levels of fitness. This event is now in its 5th year and under new ownership we hope this will be the most successful year yet.

We have free parking and a closed course which allows us to use the public roads for our event. We've done our best to avoid hills with the certified 10K course, there is a tough one at the 8K point at Lichfield Street but apart from that it is reasonably flat which is unusual for a Stoke on Trent course.

Our team are nearly all runners and we understand the challenge you look for in a run, the importance of goal setting and taking part in both challenging and fun events.

Taking part in running events is a great way to stay motivated and also drive yourself forward with your training; you can set yourself a target to complete the run within a given time. We have a wide range of runners who take part in the event, from running club members, runners not attached to clubs and people who are new to running and have set themselves the target of completing the course.

To assist you in your preparation for the event we have listed three training guides for the 10K distance which can be downloaded free of charge. These can be found on the training plan link at the top of this page. The training plans are split into 3 categories - beginner, intermediate and advanced.

To help you work out which category you fit into we recommend the following target 10k finishing times as the best guide for each plan.

Advanced runners – Below 42 minutes

Intermediate runners – 42 to 49 minutes

Beginners plan – 49 minutes plus.
